The Academies is a community of students who share common goals and similar interests. We connect students with experiences and opportunities that enhance their academic, civic and personal growth. This community includes faculty and staff from a variety of disciplines; local and international students; and a contingency of city and regional leaders, who offer a real-world perspective to the classroom. Students who participate in the Academies choose their level of participation between seminar class experiences, our residential community, and events. Themes include Civic Engagement, Entrepreneurship, Global Perspectives, Research Exploration and Sustainability.
The Academies’ physical presence on campus is split between our residential area in the Governor’s Complex and our office and Learning Lab in 17 Norton Hall. Both spaces are located on UB’s North Campus.
Students in our residential community live with other Academies students and have the opportunity to attend activities, events and workshops specifically designed for their academy of interest. Our learning lab gives students a place to relax, study and interact. Many of the events and activities we host are held in 17 Norton.
We also have an active virtual community, including vibrant Facebook, Instagram and Twitter presences. All Academies participants are encouraged to check in regularly for event updates, register for activities, and share their thoughts. To learn more, sign up for our listserv.
Interested students must complete an application.
